The County of Accomack is seeking a detailed-oriented and motivated Environmental Planner or
Permit Specialist to join our Environmental Programs Division. The successful candidate will play a key
role in review of plans, issuance of permits, inspections of sites to assure compliance with County
ordinances and state law in both office and field work. The position will be responsible for
correspondence with contractors, developers, engineers, and property owners regarding permitting
compliance. The candidate should be able to exercise analytical judgement and act in accordance with
regulation, policies, and procedures. implement decision in accordance with regulations, policies, and
procedures.

Minimum Qualifications: Associate’s degree with course work in drafting, surveying, engineering,
planning, landscape architecture, project management, or related field; supplemented by one (1) to
three (3) years of relevant experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education,
training, and experience.

Preferred qualifications: Bachelor or Master degree with major concentration in Civil Engineering,
Environmental Science, or related field, supplemented by five (5) years previous experience or any
equivalent combination of acceptable education and experience determined to be sufficient to
perform the essential functions listed above. Erosion and Sediment Control (ESC) Program
Administrator, Stormwater (SWM) Program Administrator, ESC Inspector, and SWM Inspector. A valid
driver’s license is required. If not certified, the ability to obtain this certification within 18 months of
employment is required. The incumbent shall maintain this certification and participate in
additional/ongoing training as mandated by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. Basic
computer hardware and software proficiency. Possession of a valid driver’s license. Satisfactory
completion of a background check, DMV records check and drug screening prior to employment.
